Praise for Genotator

March, 2001: A review article in Trends in Genetics by Andrew Fortna and Kathleen Gardiner rated several sequence analysis packages. They wrote:
Genotator is given high marks because it is very easy to modify both the browser and the back-end Perl programs. Genotator also uses sequence display and feature windows that make both design of experiments and additional computer analysis easy. Genotator's dynamic display is straightforward and informative with various features, such as the ability to zoom, making it the best browser tested.

The following comments were sent to me, unsolicited, by people who have installed and used Genotator in the last few years.

Thank you for an excellent creature GENOTATOR!! We saw your sample analyzed data, and tried our own sequence using your Web site. We are so much impressed.

Dept. of Molecular Biology, Keio University School of Medicine

Your code (for Genotator) is some of the most beautifully intuitive and clear code I have ever read! As easy as reading a book (and I have only been programming PERL for two weeks!!)

Plant Biotechnology Institute, National Research Council of Canada

Thanks very much for your help. I really like your program.

National Institutes of Health

I'd like to let you know that I'm really enjoying your program. It is an excellent tool for focusing in on interesting areas. In my sequences there were two known gene like structures and genotater gave a nice presentation of the areas.

Dept. of Human Genetics, Roswell Park Cancer Institute

Your program is fantastic. Thanks!

University of Colorado Health Sciences Center

I have been recently using the program you have developped The Genotator and I think is very useful.

Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM)

It was really helpful for you to share the source code with us. I have actually modified it a lot over the past two months.

Genome Institure of the Novartis Research Foundation

Thank you for much of the help you have given to us on genotator. I must say genotator is indeed a very useful and powerful tool for projects involving new genes.

Genetics Dept., Ohio State University Medical School

I want to thank you again for making available what has been a very useful resource for us as we annotate our genomic sequences.

Harvard Medical School

I just love your Genotator!

Human Genome Sequencing Group, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

We're happily using your Genotator package now. Thank you for the opportunity to use it.

Baylor College of Medicine

Very impressive, congrats on a killer application.

Dept. of Biology, University of California, San Diego

The Genotator is an excellent tool to visualize and to compare the findings of programs which use alternative approaches to detect exons and other features in genomic sequence.

Dept. of Genetics and Pathology, Uppsala University, Sweden

After sifting and surfing for a few days on the web and medline for a good genome annotation tool i concluded that I liked Genotator the best. Especially nice is that it's written in perl, it allows personal annotations, and its VERY easy to learn and use. Compared to other annotation tools i've looked at, the display is very asthetically pleasing as well.

USDA-ARS Center for Agricultural Bioinformatics, Cornell University

Genotator has been great! This has been my first real Perl experience, and it has been much fun. I have been able to add quite a few features to Genotator fairly easily to the point that I am greatly able to modify its graphics abilities as well through the Tkperl kit.
